Limited Seating Available for Free ICC Building and Safety Codes Presentation
Contractors, builders, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical skilled tradesmen, designers and the other interested parties are invited to a free presentation on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. about the history of building and safety codes and why they’re important to Salina’s economic security.
Rick Hauffe, Government Relations Regional Manager for the International Code Council, will give the presentation at the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce (Annex building located north of main Chamber of Commerce building) at 120 W. Ash. This presentation is intended to give the public insight on why updated building and safety codes are important to assure competent public policy and economic growth.
“The City of Salina has begun the process of updating its building and safety codes to keep abreast with advances in building technology, products and techniques”, Gary Hobbie, Director of Community & Development Services, said. “A lot of people have questions about building codes, where they come from and why they are needed. Mr. Hauffe represents America’s major construction codes organization and we accepted his offer to present this information.”
Mr. Hauffe’s presentation will include a history of building codes, trends in fire and building codes and how codes are developed through the International Code Council (ICC). The ICC is a nonprofit association dedicated to helping the building safety community and the construction industry to provide safe and sustainable construction through the development of codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process. Most U.S. communities and many global markets choose the International Codes, including the City of Salina. The mission of the ICC is to provide the highest quality codes, standards, products, and services for all concerned with the safety and performance of the building environment.
This is a free one hour presentation. Seating is limited, therefore a reservation is required. To reserve your seat, please email the Building Services Division, City of Salina at email@example.com.
