Event to Honor Women’s History Month

The City of Salina Human Relations Commission and the Community Relations Department will recognize and honor Women’s History Month with an event centered on the theme “Weaving the stories of Women’s Lives.”

The come and go event will last from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12 at the Salina Art Center, 242 S. Santa Fe Avenue. Salina native Lisa Bedinger will be the guest speaker. Bedinger is a coordinator for the South Burlington Community Justice Center in Vermont.

Developed by the National Women’s History Project (NWHP), this year’s theme honors the role women have in creating social change, increasing equality for all and building communities in countless ways.

The Wall of Women’s Achievement, a 24-foot long photo montage will be present at the event. The montage features over 350 women who have made significant contributions in government, science, religion, art, social activism, sports, journalism, business, literature, space exploration and military service.

In recognition of the important role women play in the lives of individuals within our community, the Community Relations Department is providing individuals with an opportunity to make a brief video tribute which will highlight inspirational women. The video tributes will then be aired on Access Television and through social media outlets.

The public is encouraged to participate in the free event. Donations will be accepted the night of the event to off-set the cost of light refreshments.
