Phenomenal Women of Salina, Women’s History Month Event
The City of Salina Human Relations Commission and the Community Relations Department will recognize and honor Women’s History Month with an event centered on the theme “Phenomenal Women of Salina.”
This year’s theme honors the role women have in creating social change, increasing equality for all, and building communities in countless ways.
A diverse panel of five women will present information from their varying backgrounds, illustrating the positive impact they have had in Salina and beyond. The panel includes:
• Reverend Delores Williamston, Salina District Superintendent,
Great Plains United Methodist Annual Conference
• Ginny Bevan, Professor Emerita, Health Physical Education and Recreation, Kansas Wesleyan University
• Judge Mary Thrower, District Magistrate Judge
• Luci Larson, Saline County Commissioner, and former
City Commissioner and Mayor
• Dr. Verna Fitzsimmons, CEO and Dean, Kansas State Polytechnic
In recognition of the important role women play in the lives of individuals within our community, the Salina Art Center will provide individuals with an opportunity to write their own stories on blank silhouettes mounted on the wall. The information gathered on these silhouettes will be used next year in a handout that documents other phenomenal women in our community.
The public is encouraged to participate in the free event, which will take place Thursday, March 31 from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Salina Art Center, 242 S. Santa Fe Avenue. To assist with the cost of light refreshments, donations will be accepted at the event.
For further information about the event, contact the Community Relations Department by phone at (785) 309-5745, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
