11/13/2018 - Santa Fe Avenue Streetscape and Waterline Update

The City’s contractor, Smoky Hill, LLC, will continue work on Santa Fe Avenue, north of Ash Street, placing northbound pavement and curb and gutter along the east side for opening to traffic by December 1.  Southbound Santa Fe Avenue will remain open to traffic.

The contractor will also be working on the north side of E. Ash Street, between Santa Fe Avenue and 5th Street, installing curb and gutter, waterline and storm sewer further described below:

  • Ash Street will be open to east and west bound traffic through the work area.

  • Smoky Hill plans to utilize a minimum amount of the west bound lanes.

  • The signal at the intersection of Ash Street and Santa Fe Avenue will be put into full service such that the stop signs can be removed.

  • The work is expected to take about three weeks to complete.

In addition, due to the traffic signal at 7th Street and Iron Avenue being removed and relocated to the intersection of Ash Street and Santa Fe Avenue, signage will be changed as follows:

  • The 7th Street and Iron Avenue intersection has been temporarily signed as a 4-way stop condition.

  • It will be switched to a 2-way stop condition on 7th Street on Thursday 11-15-18.

  • This will allow traffic flow to be more consistent traveling along Iron Avenue west of Santa Fe Avenue matching the 2-way stop condition at 8th Street and Iron Avenue.

Lastly, the contractor will close and begin work on the Phillips Plaza area late this week, which is located in the north 100 block of Santa Fe Avenue on the east side.  Persons parking in the rear will have to use rear entrances or walk down to Iron Avenue to reach businesses on Santa Fe Avenue while Phillips Plaza is closed.  Work on this plaza and the other three plazas will continue through the winter as weather allows.
