5/24/2019 - Fishing with a Cop Postponed Due to High Water at Lakewood Park Lake
Due to high water at Lakewood Park Lake, the 14th Annual Fishing With a Cop scheduled for Saturday, June 1 has been postponed until Saturday, July 6. The BBQ affiliated with the event and sponsored by North Salina Community Development will still be held on June 1 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; however the location has changed from Thomas Park to the main shelter at Lakewood Park.
Parents of children who are currently registered to participate and unable to attend on the postponed date, should call (785) 826-7335 to have their children removed from the list so that children on the waiting list have a chance to participate.
Fishing With a Cop includes two competitions with prizes in three age categories, one for casting and the other for the biggest fish caught. The event includes refreshments and a prize drawing for registered participants.
The first 50 preregistered participants in each age category qualify for the entry give-away.
Check-in for the event begins at 7:30 a.m. with the fishing competition starting at 8 a.m. and concluding at 11 a.m. Children in attendance need to be supervised by an adult during the event.
Fishing With a Cop is a partnered event between Lakewood Discovery Center, the Salina Police Department, and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism. The event is a spin-off from the Annual Lakewood Fishing Derby and involves law enforcement from the Salina Police Department, Saline County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks and Tourism, and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
