4/10/2013 - North Second Street Railroad Crossing to Close

North Second Street Railroad
Crossing to Close

On Thursday, April 11, 2013, crews for Watco Railroad Company will begin removing pavement for the purpose of closing the railroad crossing located at North Second Street, north of North Street within the city limits.

Once work is complete, vehicles will no longer be able to travel through this crossing. However, access to properties by way of North Third Street and North Front Street will remain available indefinitely.

This work is part of a state and federally funded project aimed at improving public safety through the rehabilitation of the Watco rail lines between Salina and Osborne and the removal of public crossings on low volume roads. The funding also facilitated the North Ninth Street, North Santa Fe Avenue, and North Street Watco crossing upgrades performed in November of 2012.
